I have a 1998 P38 Limited edition, it has the Harman Kardon sound system. I have a sony head unit fitted via iso plugs.

I brought a cable of the internet that should have allowed the stereo to be controlled by the origional Range Rover buttons on the steering wheel but it doesnt seem to work.

Does anyone know if the Harman Kardon amps and speakers need a different lead?

Thanks in advance

Apart from the steering wheel buttons not working, does the Sony head unit work Ok with the karmon Kardon amp and speakers? There have been other threads on here where people have had great difficulty getting after market head units to work with the Harmon Kardon setup. Off memory, I think you may be struggling to get the steering wheel buttons to work.

There are two different switch assemblies. They have different wiring configurations to the rotary coupler dependant on the ICE level. If the wrong one is fitted, it won't work.

I could be completely wrong though.

I have a jvc head unit in mine with a specific jvc lead which gives a stunning sound my only problem is the steering controls work in a different order to that on the wheel, its no problem though. I did however check that the head unit was powerful enough to handle the RR sound system and the lead for steering controls were a match ie not a generic lead that promises to work miracles. The jvc system has a 3.5mm jack plus an iso block coming from behind the stereo to the wheel iso and the amps.
