hiya

tried a search and couldnt find anything relating to this subject

i wish to replace my worn out steering wheel for one which has the radio and cruise controls.

is it a question of pulling the fuse out to stop the air bag going off, what other precautions would i need to take.

my other thought is how difficult would it be to wire up my radio to the steering wheel controls and what would be involved if i wished to install the cruise control system.

im also about to buy myself the synergy 2 with maf, an egr bypass kit and the crankcase bmw conversion hopefully it will make a difference, hopefully the synergy comes with instructions how to alter the settings for which results is wanted

i have a 2002 td4

as always many thanks and hope everyone is keeping well

Im breaking a freelander with the radio controls. Can cut the wiring out of my loom and send to you if its of any use to you?

Hi Gary,
Re. Cruise Control - it ain't easy !! :(
Other than the post I got suggestin' I use a 'bit of wood between the seat base and the go peddle' - got to admit tho' it is the cheapest option!
Check out this fred - http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f9/freelander-cruise-control-help-needed-please-41525-2.html
After much researchin' I did fit an aftermarket system on my manual '06 TD4 which is still workin' fine. :)
Got it to use the standard dash switches and wheel controls so it all looks standard. :) Needed some new wiring and custom electronikery tho'.

L/R's CC was only ever offered on auto doozles or petrol models and involves extra CC ECU's and different wiring looms from what I found.
Also the L/R system needs to be enabled with a 'Test Book' by a dealer (or other) to get the systems talking to each other even if you do manage to retrofit one. ;)

You should find settin' up the radio and wheel controls easier using either L/R or aftermarket interfaces between the wheel switches and head unit. You may find the wires from the coupler to control unit missing so Mike's offer may save you some time and effort in finding awkward connectors etc.

Best of luck with a brave endevour. :)

thanks for the info really appreciate it, i have a td4 2002 auto

regarding the hawkeye units are you able to alter anything with these or does it just show faults.

im looking forward getting my synergy 2, hopefully it will make a difference.

also going to do the crankcase conversion and the egr bypass valve.

was trying to find the installation instructions for the synergy 2 to see how difficult it was to put in

thanks so much as always

Hi Gary,
Did the Synergy2 on ours last month.
Unit has two sets of 'wires' (in flexi tubing) with two plugs on the end of each.
One pair goes to the MAF the other to the High Pressure Fuel sensor.
The wires are long enough to fit the unit somewhere over by the battery (cut a hole thro' the rubber entry to the ECU box and fitted ours inside in the dry)
Just unplug the standard connectors, plug in the new Synergy plugs and plug loom plugs (ones you just took off) into the Synergy sockets. Simples !!
Well it would have been if not for a slight difference in the plug keys see this fred - http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f9/fitting-synergy2-oops-116473.html
Other than that slight oops the unit is workin' great - still waitin' to try it out with the pikey wagon tho'.
PM me if you want a copy of what I got with the Synergy2 and I'll scan them in.

Don't think Hawkey will enable CC - perhaps someone who has one can help?
