Hi folks. My steering on the 90 2.4 is quite stiff I’m just wandering what’s the best kind of process of elimination to go by. Thanks.

Visual inspections first of all. Is there fluid in the pas system, look at the steering column uj's for tell tale rust signs, are all the ball joints greased, are the swivels greased?

As for process of elimination, disconnect the drop arm ball joint and see it the axle turns freely, disconnect the steering column form the box and see if the column and joints move freely, then you have narroed it down to one of three areas?

I've got a TD5 so my experience will be different to yours. However, I've had two episodes of stiff steering. One of which was caused by the power steering pump giving up the ghost, as indicated by power steering fluid leaking from it. The second was caused by the miniature universal joints on the steering column deteriorating and creating stiff spots as the wheel was rotated. Your mileage may vary of course, but those are the things I'd look at first if it happened to me again.
