Steering damper

Hi guys
couple of quick questions
1) my steering damper has rusted through the housing, and you can see the metal ram, will this fail on MOT? and what make is the best to go for?

2) indicaters are annoying me i fitted new flasher unit bout 6 months ago, but the trailer light comes on all the time, when no trailer hooked up. is it something that's making it thing theres a trailer there? or just a dodgy flasher unit?

Mine shows a pic of a trailer even when theres no trailer on for the first flash. Theres a relay somewhere.

Yeah my trailer light flashes everytime the indicater arrow flashes, whether towing or not. but trailer lights all work fine, just sumat that's bugging me!!

Theres a LR manual you can download for free. I put a link in on a thread entitled 'new discovery owner' I think. It is the proper LR workshop manual and will have all the wiring diagrams etc in it. Its a 15mb download.

The steering damper is a 20 min job to replace, it makes hell of a difference on the steering, just make sure it is the right way round.

I looked through them all when I was doing my 90, for £11 Craddocks will sell you the basic Armstrong, for £40 more you can get others, however, it is actully a 10minute job and its not really worth the £40 for some yellow paint.

I bought a complete upgrade from M&M 4x4 for towing, (springs, shocks, bushes etc). the gas shocks and steering damper (individually priced at £28) were from ProComp It has really made a big difference.

just fit a new standard one. a new one will make a huge difference.
as said, lot of extra money for some yella paint.

Because they are so easy to change, many people fit a new steering damper when it is the swivel preloads that mostly cause steering wobble. But if the casing has rusted through I reckon the damper must be a bit ancient..

and check your steering column shaft uj.
mine was shagged out. disco was going down the road like feckin popeye.

Ok,thanks for the reponses. Think i'll just go for a standard one then, and ye think i'll have to get some yella paint for it! O bugger it, i'll get some fluorescent PINK paint for it. Actually i've just had a brainwave, i'll get loads of standard one's paint em pink, put em on ebay for £100 and call em Limited Editions!!!!!!!!!!!!

In fact i could always buy the lot, then when you runs out of pink i can sell them at twice the price as original limited editions.
