Steering croans and creaks!

Any ideas on this one??.....
When turning steering wheel at low speed or stationary I can hear a groaning/ creaking noise which is coming from the shaft.
Any ideas?

Reverse about 3 feet and let the old bastid get up. yu evil fooker.

The PAS will work harder at low vehicle speeds so you will hear some noise. To check that it not indicating a problem, get a helper to move the wheel and watch in the resivour for rising bubbles.
