Hi all, just ordered a Momo Quark steering wheel to replace my Mountney one. Unfortunately, it looks like the boss that the mountney uses is slightly different to the Momo one. So given it is a 1987 90 that's had a full 200tdi conversion, how many splines would me steering column have?

There was a table for it online but wasn't really sure what category I would fall into.

Thanks.

Depends what you mean by 'full' 200 conversion .. My 1989 90 has a 36 spline column. I dunno if it changed when the 200 engine went in.

I also believe that some later models had 36 spline columns, but slightly thicker diameter, just to make it a tad more awkward .. so be careful what you get .. ;)

Can't you just drill the Momo to suit the existing boss?

It should be 36 spline, or at least the ones I've seen have been.
Have a look here, unless it's the table you've already looked at.
Pictures help too, but useless if you don't know what wheel you had fitted originally.

Acksherlly .. belay my help .. do you want to sell the mountney and it's boss? Must be cheap .. 'cos I'm (as ever) skint .. ;)

I will sell, it but not until the other one is on ofc, which may be a little while yet. An no I wont drill a near £200 steering wheel

Yes that's the table I looked at. Looks like it might be a 36sp then. Don't know what the original steering wheel was. Just have to give it a go I guess.

Cheers

From Web Rover

"Important: Since the introduction of the 'Puma' engined Defender (2007) there is additional wheel variant used by Land Rover. This is a wheel which looks like 'Type C' but that fits the large diameter (48 spline) column. Fitment of this "Type D" wheel started part way through the 2008 model year as below. So this "Type D" Station Wagon-type wheel will fit Tdi Defenders and Td5/Puma hard tops, pick ups and soft tops with the 36 spline column. But if you are looking to buy a wheel please make sure you confirm which type of column it is for."

Eh..? Can someone please explain this to me, it's just confusing me.!!!! Type D will fit 36 spline, but Type D will fit 48 spline. I give up:frusty:

Count them then you wont be wrong.
Pull the old boss off. I use a small screwdriver to click around the column and count the clicks until I get back to the starting place. I dont even need my specs on to do this - just have to turn the hearing aid up a few notches ;).

I still end up counting them more than once as I usually think I've got it wrong
