Steering boss

i got a cheapo steering wheel and boss (Raptor 4x4).

Anybody know what this ring with tabs is for? Seems to fit into the boss, but not sure why or if I need it?

I don't think so. There are two pins that I put into the back of the boss that replicate the tabs on the original steering wheel. They go into the housing rather than sitting across it like these do.

But maybe it is if used for a different type of car?
