Maybe I'm not onto anything here, but thought I'd put a rare good word in for the 'Stealers'.

I'm settling into freelander life pretty well with a split turbo hose 3 weeks into owning it, and when ordering the replacement from Ripon Landrover (for speed) thought I'd ask about the crankcase breather assembly I've been shopping around for. They supplied it for £32 with free delivery (local) and the turbo hose for £8.

Best price I'd got off the interweb for the crankcase assembly was £35 plus delivery off eBay, and had a mate in the trade (maybe the wrong trade!) look around who came back with £40. Fitted like a dream and only took 30 minutes under flood lights from start to finish (I had taken the old one out before so knew how to wrestle the air filter cover back into position).

Maybe there are cheaper out there, but I got the genuine landrover part delivered the same day for nowt. If you're in the general Ripon area don't write them off for parts until you've checked the price :)

you'll be surprised how cheap landy parts are from the stealers, its the labour that is wallet scaring!

Agreed - until now I've had nothing but great service from Ripon LR. I'm sure I bought the breather assembly last year for £24 tho - so it sounds like it's gone up!

I had my spare wheel cover stolen (yes its newcastle they will steal owt) 20 quid for a new one at Stratstone. one's on flea bay 35 quid and thats for a used one!!! ( hmmmm can see a chance to make money here i think) New expansion bottle and cap was 5 quid cheaper at main dealer than tinternet. but i agree with ste, 50-90 quid to tell you your car is fooked is a bit much.

Have to agree the drain stealers are cheaper on most parts. Wipers are £13.44 for a set on the front. Can't beat that anywhere. Order anything before 2pm and you get it the next day. Take a photo of what you and email it to them, and they get back to you with correct part no and price.

Well I'll certainly be going to them again - very good service and can't fault the bits.

Hippo life is an expensive thing! Car's in at the local garage with injector 2 being replaced, and on asking for a check underneath for minor knocking noise have discovered the front diff mount was doing nothing due to complete failure and there's a UJ on the rear propshaft (I think that's what he said) that needs replacing. Hope all these loose mechanics underneath hasn't caused any damage to the VCU (chalk test was ok a couple of weeks ago) or any other bits that I've read about on here that have a tendency to fail.

All this after a month and about 500 miles - can't say I wasn't warned, maybe I'm just an eternal optimist!

I reckon I won't be rushing back to the guy who sold it to me to get the towbar fitted now - he can fit it for free if he wants....
