Station Wagon V Double cab (comfort)

Hello,
I am looking to buy a crew cab as my family car (I won't be using it to commute, just taking the wife, 2 teenaged boys and a dog on holidays, days out etc.) My thinking was that a crew cab is easier to keep hot/cold because of it's smaller cabin size. However, I will have to buy a locking box for the rear. The Station Wagon already has the rear security and there seem to be more about.

I would be looking at a 2004/5 model Station wagon. Would you consider this to be an issue?

If you are worried about the heating, there are 2 cures to this problem.

1) fit a solid bulkhead between the 2nd row of seats and the rear tub. This will give you less area that needs heating

2) Fit an eberspacher or webasto heater in addition to the standard heater. They are about £1000 new or £300 secondhand on ebay.

Before you go doing either of the above though it's worth seeing what the heater is like as it is. You may be pleasantly surprised.

I assume that there are better options for having the 2nd row of seats further back for legroom aswell. Looks like the SW might be a more practical option afterall.

I can't see why you couldn't move the seat back a touch. You'd have to be a bit careful due to the seatbelt mounting points.

Exmoor trim do reclining second row seats that help to increase legroom and passenger comfort.

Thanks for the replies chaps. Here is a reply to some questions I had from Nick of Exmoor trim. I will probably be going the crew cab route:

“By fitting one of our recliner frame kits and the 3 high and lo back seats you will gain approx an extra 2 inches of leg room. This does not sound much but will make a big difference for the rear seat passengers. The only problem that you will encounter is that as your Land Rover is that as it is a Crew Cab the seats will not recline very far as they will go back against the rear of the cab. The centre seat back will go flat forward though, so it could be used as an arm rest……Yes they will be fine for sitting on. They will recline backwards, just not very far. But they won`t be bolt upright.”
