Gentlemen went out to the car this afternoon and she would not start - there was the clicking which I assumed was starter motor due to flat battery (why it should be flat anyones guess) Jumped it nothing - locked and unlocked her and she turned over but wouldnt start - then she did so before i left home thought switch off and immediately restart - back to the clicking - do i have a knackered starter or a prob with the immobiliser any ideas greatly received

Sounds like the starter motor-probably the solenoid. If it was the immobiliser, you would not get anything other than a message to that effect on the message display.
Removing the starter can be a pain-especially the top bolt. You will need an M8 allen key type socket and a couple of extensions with a ratchet-see Rave.
Island 4x4 do a new starter motor for the V8's for around £60

Mines had a problem with the starter!

Only bought it the yesterday, took it from garage around the corner to fill up and it wouldn't start. Phoned the garage and they said it will be the immobiliser, I said I'd tried it a few times and it was the immobiliser.

They sent one guy around who messed about with the key fob and then phoned his mate, he got told it was probably the immobiliser. After another ten mins another two guys came out. They tried exactly the same thing with no luck, tried the battery with a jump starter no luck then one of them got under and tapped the starter whilst someone turned the key and she fired up.

Got home and it was fine for the next two starts then today at work I had to get someone to turn the key whilst I tapped the starter. The garage are taking her back in on monday to replace the starter so that should end that problem....

Fingers crossed, in the mean time I've got a small metal bar with my keys just in case.

Just got mine back from the garage I bought it from, they sent it for a new starter motor and it was apparently a real pain in the arse to remove the old starter.

I'm guessing it's one of them jobs that would have been a nightmare for me to do so I'm glad it was replaced under warranty ;)
