Ok .........after getting P*** wet through I'm no further on ..So HELP!!!!!!

1996 Disco V8 ........Runs grand no probs at all until..................

Every so often I'll get in turn the key & NOWT!!!! .....turns over Great but having traced the wiring to the Ignition Relay ???? (down by the nearside headlight) I get Nowt out of it !!!!

BUT>>>> if I swop out the Direct live feed to the relay & put it on the Coil ......BINGO ...Fires up first time & runs PERFECT!!!
From my Very limited knowledge this tells me I'm getting no Live feed to the other side of the relay (To make it Energise) & therefore a "No Start" situation, I also get NOWT to my LPG system ....Which helps a bit coz if the Change over switch on me dash don't light up then I know it a waste of time crankin the engine. The LPG system obviously takes its Feed from after this fault

I've just done 459 miles up to dumfries & back NO PROBS went out 2 hours later & ZIPPO!!!!! NOwt !!!!!

The last time it happened I was "Fumbling" about down by the relay & KAABLAMO!!! I heard a "Click" walked back round to the drivin door turned the kay & off she went

Done 1599 miles since NO Probs now Doris is at it again

I don't want to sound as if I'm being rude but after you heard the click from the relay and all was well did you replace the relay?

Other than a bad connection the sockets rarely give problems, more likely a faulty relay.

I had the same thing on my 200 tdi with the indicator relay/flasher unit not working. With the indicator stalk in the turn position there was no indicators, touched the relay and they started working.

I took the top off the relay and the connection inside had broken, out with the solder and it was sorted, fitted a new one later because another connetion failed?

only a thought........

Cheers for the info Dave but the relay is fine it's just getting no power to energise it ..........I was really bad last night & at 11pm I called out the RAC after bout 2 mins he traced the fault to a chafed wire underneath the coil. replaced it for me with a soldered connection & WHOOSH!! all sorted.

Yer know this has bin goin on fer months, start, no start cuttin out ect ect & the thing hinged on a flimsey bloody wire put in by the LPG people.

Ahhh Well!!!! back to happy motorin ...............Until the next thing breaks !!!!!!

Glad you got it sorted, ah well ......maybe the indicator/flasher unit suggestion will help someone out one day?

regards

Dave
