P38A Starting problems.

Hi Guys, hope your all safe at the moment, I have a problem with the car, went out shopping yesterday and noticed when we came out the car looked like someone had deflated the drivers side, started it up and no problems on the way home, so desided to plug in the EAS programme into the car and sorted out the ride heights, then came to start the car and nothing, car it turning over but won't start check for a spark all ok, put a new set of HT leads on still have spark but not starting. So headed to the fuel line and nothing, not even any pressure by the injectors, so 2 questions, would the EAS reset stop the car from starting or would it kill the fuel pump, even broke the fuel line by the fillter to see if it was working but again nothing.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

There is no connection between the EAS ECU and the fueling, I don't know the V8, but could it be an immobiliser problem?
 
So where is the immobiliser hidden as I do not have a clue,petrol V8 1998 4.0L. Can I replace it. By why would it go messing about with the EAS program or is there a way to find out that it is the immobiliser before I go for the petrol tank a fuel pump route.
 
Just found a Hawkeye grey unit that resets your ABS and security on the car, would that clear the immobiliser fault or is it just as easy to change the unit.
 
It wouldn't turn over if it was immobilised...

can you hear the fuel pump?

It could be a "simple case" of the inertia switch being tripped for whatever reason, try giving it a prod to reset it..

You could jump the fuel pump relay, or replace it, that is a another "common cause"..

Or it could be a knackered fuel pump..

How do you jump a relay,never done that before.

A relay is a switch, just run a wire between the terminals.

the relay has 4 pins, three of them are parallel, one 90deg turned.

The one turned and the middle of the three parallel are the switched contacts, the outer both parallel are the solenoid in the relay.

if you jump contact 30 and 87 with a piece of wire the pump should run ;)
 
Well by the looks of things it's turned out to be the fuel pump fault, so tank is now off and tomorrow it's testing time to see if it can be sorted out before buying a new pump. After tapping the area of the pump it satared to run for a short while so it was pumping the petrol through but not enough to make the car run, I will update tomorrow after looking at the pump.
 
Well taken the pump out of the tank today and it is definitely knackered, wired it up to see if I could get anything out of it and it ran for about 5 seconds then packed up and that was it. So new pump ordered but it won't be here till Wednesday /Friday, so while the cage is off though i'd give it a re fresh ready for when the new pump turns up. So re-underseal above the tank before the re-fit.

@J L Carr Best of luck with the new pump! I had this exact problem with my L322 turned out to be the fuel pump also. After replacing the fuel pump the plastic fixing on top of the unit that feeds fuel from the pump popped off spilling £40 of fuel everywhere that was a dangerous and expensive experience. Not sure on the P38 but I would check the quality of those plastic fixings if the P38 has them :) Regards H
 
The 1 good thing about the old P38 pump is the pipe works are metal, the only one that's plastic is the breather pipe that leads up to the fuel filler. So hopefully I won't hit any problems and get the car back on the road. Thanks.
 
While the tank is off I noticed that the rubber fuel filler pipe has a few cracks in it,my question is does anybody know where I can get 1 from with out going through RR themselves. Thanks.
 
Cheers Guys, just got it from Island 4x4 full total £25, so hopefully have it soon and get the tank and everything put back while we have some good weather and not back to work yet. To everyone in the Landyzone stay safe.
