Hi I have a series 3 1984 88ins deisel the problem is it want start turn over nothing put new battery on it still won't start one problem is the pull stop is getting very hot and smokes when I try and start the engine nothing else gets hot checked wiring and no breaks etc can any one help taken the complete ignition out key part think this may be the problem as its from this point the pull stop gets hot.

If the pull stop is getting hot you’ve either got a short Somewhere or a bad engine/starter earth and it’s pulling current through it.
I would be checking earth continuity with a multimeter between the battery terminal and starter motor/engine.
I’m not certain but from memory you could have either a positive or negative earth so it’s worthwhile checking which yours is.
If it has been sat for a while then check carefully for rodent/rat damage in the wiring, I’ve repaired lots of rat damaged wiring in vehicles lately!
