Hi,
I need some assistance if possible. I have a 2005 Freelander 1 TD4, which is having some starting issues.
My car is fine in the cold, or when the glow plugs need to activate. However, when the car is warm or the glow plugs don't need to come on, when I try to start the car, it will start, sound like it's only cranking over slowly, then die. At this point even pressing the accelerator won't let me rev the car to keep it running.
This issue seems to very intermittent, as I can go a few weeks where it doesn't happen, or where it happens all the time.
Any ideas how to fix this? I read somewhere about a dodgy cam sensor?
I did take it to a garage, who replaced the fuel pump in the back wheelarch, as that was faulty. They also checked the injectors, but they were all fine.I have alsoput some injector cleaner through the system, but nothing has yet made a difference.
I have also fitted an EGR blanking kit, BMW cyclone filter, as well as having recently given it a full service.
I can re-start the car about 10 seconds or so after it cuts out, and although initially a bit if smoke comes out the back, it runs fine. It pulls cleanly through the rev range, with no drop in power.
I know 5 other people with Freelander's of a similar age, but higher mileage, who have never had this issue.
Any advice is greatly sought.
Thanks
