Hello everyone,

Could anyone offer some advice for the wiring for the spade connector to the starter motor, the one for the solenoid.

I have noticed that the plastic wire sheath has split in a couple of areas and I am sure this is causing some problems when trying to start, I have found that these splits plays up with the starting. I think this causes sometimes the starter motor not engaging the flywheel properly due to the bad connections.

I cannot find the amp rating of the wire, i take it, that it gets 12v from the battery but I am not sure what wire to use as a replacement and would it be possible to use a block connector from the good part of the wire and use a replacement wire to the starter itself?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Matt

lucar crimp conector (female and you want a set of ratchet crimpers) screwfix/machine mart)
most likely yellow not blue to fit terminal
if you wanted to extend the wire then a butt splice crimp also

all available at motor factors

Use the same size wire as the original, or larger. you could use a solder joint instead of a crimp joint if you find that easier. Protect the joint with heat shrink sleeving glue lined for preference:D

The 12 volts comes from the ignition key when turned to position 3, probably via some electrofrickery such as the BECM as it's a Rangie:eek: Would have to look at RAVE to be sure.

Thank you for your replies,

I like your idea Datatek, thats what I will do and probably use a slightly thicker wire too with some heat shrink sleeving.

Many thanks for your help, it is much appreciated.

Matt
