Starter motor

300 tdi, new starter motor fitted but won't disengage.
Taken back off and seems to be working when bench testing however it does still stick on and the main battery live terminal has to be disconnected to turn it off.
Any ideas, or bad starter motor?

So even on the bench it keeps going with no power to the spade terminal once started?

if its new just get it replaced obviously dodgy
