First off I am no mechanic, used to be able to fix my motorbikes when I was lad, theh were basic in those days, but four wheels fixing I never really got in to.
I have a 99 plate 4.6HSE thor which through reading previous posts on here I think has a goosed starter motor/solenoid.
I have read that giving the sm a tap with a spanner/hammer may get it going, I only need a short term fix and getting it going just the once would suffice until I can get it properly fixed, so willing to give it a go.
My question is where is the sm? I can't tell from any of the vids I have watched? Do I get to it under the car from the driver side?
Any pointers much appreciated.

Found it, couldn't get under the csr on the offside due to how it had levelled off. It started after a couple of taps and didn't get stopped until the job was done. It ha started agsain although not as sweet as previous a bit sluggish.

Check earth connections and battery state. Second hand ones are cheap as chips on the Bay. v8 and diesel are different!
