starter motor/ignition switch

Hi all in desperate need of advice

The ignition barrel was playing up so the Mrs went ahead and swapped it over today while I was in work, now this is where the fun begins,

When you turn the ignition on now and the engine the starter motor is staying on and you can only turn the engine off via the kill switch, also can't lock it with the fob or keys as It's beeping like when there is a door open.


If anyone knows what's gone wrong it would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the wires on the back of the barrel are in the wrong place!
The furthest turn of the key should start the starter motor/engine

Check the wires are in the right place

Cheers mate, the engine starts in the normal place but sounds like the starter is sticking on if this makes sense, or is this what your on about?

What exactly do you mean when you said the missus changed the ignition barrel?

Can you put up a piccy showing what she changed?

It sounds like your ignition barrel is misaligned from the switch.
 
Sorry guys just relaying what i have been told as still in work, its a 96 300tdi by the way, where does the multi plug live?
 
She changed the whole thing, steering cowl off wires unplugged , bolts undone and whole new unit put in. SOrry if this isn't making any sense chaps.
