heeelp bought a d3 2005 2.3 diesel removed starter an cleaned it all works fine when connected to battery via jump leads i connected the starter at the side of motor via all usual wires it kicks out but dosnt spin ? any help would be amazing thanks

Need to be more specific on the model type
D2 was 98 to 2005
D3 was 2004 to 2009
D2 2.5 diesel
D3 2.7 diesel

Assuming its a td5? then starter solenoid contacts was a common fail point, parts on ebay cheape enough.

When testing starter are you powering the motor directly, or using the solenoid trigger wire to fire the motor? both are different things electrically.

lets not dwell on the fact i am new to them an only wanted a bit help
Which is what we are giving you! Don't be too sensitive on here! There will be a bit of banter but don't go near "Anything goes" cos it's a lot tougher there!
First question have you checked all earths tween batt and starter. especially to the engine?
Q2 Have you tried a jump lead direct from the batt neg to the starter?
Get back and we'll help never fear we are OK really, just it's dinner time and the bear and wine is flowing!
Edit, fu ck meant "beer"!

sorry when starter was fitted i put direct earth from battery an still just clicked

Now I only have Disco 1s and 2 but have had exactly the same prob. Can't guarantee this is it, but I would suggest you take the starter solenoid apart and check the condition of the contacts that make the circuit for the drive part of the motor once the solenoid closes. If they are dirty/pitted/worn/corroded then that could be the reason for your problem. Get back to us and don't worry there are D3 experts on here too. You are on the best Landy site in the world with massive knowledge and experience. don't worry, we'll get you fixed!
And if it isn't that then we need to look at where the pinion enters into contact with the ring gear on the flywheel.

thanks manthis eases my mind greatly . i still have the starter out of the motor so will get into it the morn an get a look

Only other obvious thing to try is that the positive lead to the starter is fully connected all the way back to the batt, and that the batt is up to snuff, i.e.12.6 volts at rest.
