Hi,
I've got a 53 plate Discovery 2. 139000 miles, always been looked after, not thrashed etc.
Back in February this year, it started stalling after it started - so, turn ignition, glow plug light goes off, turn ignition, fires fine but then a couple of second later rattles and stalls. Turn ignition off, on again, starts fine - then runs fine.
We took it to the garage, who replaced the fuel filter and the fuel pump (above the fuel tank). This had no effect. They did this as when I turn the ignition, there's a whirring/sucking sound from the back, so they thought the fuel pump had failed.
A week after this, car wouldn't start at all - just turning over, wouldn't fire. Called the AA to tow me to a garage, but he managed to get it started - said the glow plugs weren't working. So, asked the garage to change the glow plugs, which seemed to solve the problem.
Since then it's been to Scotland and back, and was fine - it sat for a week up there and started fine after that. It's been used every day for local runs too.
On Monday, it started doing exactly the same thing again, rattling and stalling straight after starting. It only does this from a complete cold start - if there's any residual heat in the engine it seems fine. It's running fine, fuel consumption is as normal, it's just starting that's a problem!
I've just spoken to a different garage, they said to check the oil levels in case an injector seal was leaking - but the oil level is normal.
I'm now stuck - it will be going in to the garage probably on Friday but just wondered if anyone on here had any suggestions or guidance?
Thank you!
