SRS Light on

SRS light now on, i've caused this problem myself by been a knob head and tinkering when i'd got every thing working ok.

I bought an elm 327 usb obd2 interface but it took me around 4 goes at getting the computer set up properly and that was 4 turns of the ignition key, when i got it working no codes detected, i went onto the live data section this is limited with the version you get with it, any way pleased with myself i got it working i turned of engine and disconnected.

Now when i turn engine on the srs light remains on, i've tried the engine several times on and off the light remains on, is there anyway i can get it off, i should of left well alone, i'll give myself a slap.

Unfortunately accessing the vehicle through an OBD (EOBD) device will only give you limited access - engine management only. That is why you cannot clear the codes.

To get a correct diagnoses on what error code the SRS ecu is storing and then go on to fix it, you really need to get it plugged in by a more comprehensive diagnostic machine to find out what is going on.

The srs light wasn't on before i started playing with the elm327 obd interface, i can only put it down to turning the ignition on and off about four or five times, is there anyway i can switch it off.

There isn't a way to turn the SRS light out without having the correct diagnostic equipment to access and clear the codes. Because it's a safety device the codes are hard stored as well so not even disconnecting the battery etc would clear them.

You may have to pop into a local garage and get them to clear the codes for you.

And in regards of why it has turned on, it could be just a coincidence that when you plugged in your device a fault just happened to occur at the same time with the SRS system. Or perhaps you had to move your front seats back more than usual to get access to the diagnostic port, and the seat belt pretensioner wire under the seat has moved more than usual. This can sometimes turns on the SRS light if there is high resistance in the wire in certain positions.

Or you've been extremely unlucky and the ELM327 device has somehow caused damage to your SRS module.


Hopefully it'll just a case of getting someone to clear some stored codes for you though - let me know what happens!

Maybe a lucky try - but did you check the fuse?

The wire beneath my seat on my D2 also were loose and after fixing it the srs and I thought it needed to be cleared with a special tool and never checked the fuse

Only later when a trailer blew some fuses I discovered the blown fuse and the srs light was solved.

I checked fuse no36 srs, it's ok

I've also unpluged the yellow connectors under the seats 4 times in case of bad connection.

I think it was either me moving both driver/passenger seats back before i leaned across while i was sat in the drivers seat to plug the cable into the connector on the passaengers side or me switching the engine on and off 4 or 5 times.

I've disconnected the battery, i'm going to leave it over night to see if the light will go off when powered up tomorrow.

i had extensive problems with the srs light not going out after i replaced a heater matrix dashboard etc

spent days on end and the only way u will clear the fault is through a designated dtc reader, ie hawkeye

i found a loose wire on one of the terminals on a seat pretensioner , fixed it and tried all the tricks to get the srs light out, fuses, leaving battery terminals off etc for two days, nothing worked

plugged in my hawkeye and cleared the fault , the ecu keeps the fault as a hard dtc

if after clearing the fault it comes up again it will then require further investigation

hope that may help see if someone is near u who may have a reader to clear the fault for u

We have the SRS light on too, great thread, gives me some pointers as to where to start to solve it, but sounds like a trip to the garage will also be required to reset it.

mine is always on as well,but i tend to ignore it,
fecking electrics on land rovers,(shiite).

I thought it would be an MoT issue?

is the OBD interface still plugged in?
my srs light comes on when my obd thingy is plugged in, just un plug it, and away i went

Have you had an MoT with it on?

hi mate yes it passed its mot in may with the srs lit up,
i dont know the rules about it but it definately was on.

Need to locate the OBD interface as well MoT Wednesday, see what surprises that throws up!

I just tried this with SWMBOs 2002 TD4. Using an OBD2 interface did not make the SRS light come on.

Just curious as I don't currently have an OBD or any other reader, but where is the socket for the reader in a FL1?

Sit in the passenger seat, move your right foot towards the transmission tunnel (if it is right hand drive). The diagnostic socket will be within a few inches of your foot.

Ah yes, I have seen it earlier today when fitting a new radio and routing the aerial cable for DAB.
