SRS Airbag fault......??????!!!!

Guys,

I have checked through previous posts for this one but still unsure why on a battery change or if the battery goes flat, that it triggers an airbag fault and the SRS light comes on and stays on???!!

I have just recently had my Range Rover 4Ltr petrol in the body shop for the top and bottom tail gates re painted along with bumpers, also they flatened the battery whilst it was in there and had to be jumped of another vehicle.........On collection I mentioned it to them that the light was on and of course, "It was already like that?!".... Is what I got told !!!
Which wasn't the case!!!!
I understand from reading other posts that you need Autologic or testbook to reset..... But just need to understand why a flat battery causes the SRS light to come on? Is it possible they could have caused any damage?

Its all to do with the BeCM ... I had a light on mine fer 4 YEARS!!! (I know coz I checked the History of the MOT sites) & each year it was "NOTED"

I'm sure IrishRover (John) will be along in a tick to give you a "FULLER" explanation..........

Usual fault which is logged in the SRS is "Battery voltage low".
I have been involved with many P38's that have displated the same fault because of Becm lockout etc. and the car has been stood for some time and the battery has gone flat as a pancake.
A simple reset of the fault get's things back to normal (If that's possible on a P38 !!) and the problem is cleared.
Let's get one thing straight, the first priority with any P38 is to make sure that (a) The battery is good and (b) that the battery has sufficient voltage and state of charge at ALL times. Ok , batteries fail at some time and ****e happens..you can get away with it no problem with an old Ford Sierra etc. but you are looking at a completely different animal with a P38..Forget the old way approach to problems...this is unique.
P38's are that tempremental it's unbelievable, probably down to age and natural deteriation of the electronic components, which are no longer available..they are obsolete.
That said, out of the still, large number of P38's on the road the percentage of "Rogue" cars is small, but to those of you with a "Good 'un" the chances are that you will get bit o n the ass sooner or later...it's the law of averages.

I know now that the battery is the key!! Although I have a 110 amp hour battery on my Range, the body shop has had it for around 2 months and it hasn't been run..... With the doors open and the interior lights on all the time its obvious they have flattend the battery which has brought the SRS light on, which is most probably "Battery low voltage".
I'll attempt to get it reset!!

Thanks guys!! It was just as you said..... Took it to Steve Parker Landrover today, they plugged it into Autologic and turned it off, it was indeed the battery poer that had triggered it !!
