hi there..

i noticed today that one of the pulleys from the front of my engine as quite a squeaker..

the water has run quite low as it was leaking very slightly from the top rad hose.. the expansion tank wasnt empty tho.

have i killed the water pump? it only does it on idle..

ta!

could be the bearing in the water pump pulley, they do wear and i killed mine not too long ago!

if its a 300tdi it'll more than likely be the Aux belt tnesioner, on the 200tdi, i have no idea, unsure if they have a tensioner or not!

D

ah yes forgot to mention its a 200!

had the pump off a couple of months ago doing the timing belt.. felt spot on then!

the tensioner is the alternator for a 200Tdi, loosen bolts, wedge a piece of wood between the block and the alternator, push across and tighten up.

Thats the badger way anyho

I think it's abit of both alternator and pas and stuff... Although I have been having a few issues with the alternator slackening its self off... Hmmm

well.. this is abit of an issue to be honest...

i tighten it up, and it slackens slowly but surely.. kept doing it, so i got a longer bolt and put a split washer under the nut.. but it seems to have slackend slightly again..

probably about 1.5/1cm of movement currently...?

Iv had 2 in the past 2 months now! One shredded it's self, and I changed the other cos I thaught that it might be a dodgey belt.. Don't think it is tho!

A simple mistake to be made when fitting these belts is to misalign them via WP, alt & PAS pump. I assume it's all nicely in line, if not you can space out the alternator ( i found this is the culprit 90% of the time ).

If it's in line, a newish belt then other than oil/water ingress i'd keep up the slack in it.

im pretty sure when i swung on the spanner a couple of days later it shredded its self.. recon it might have been over tight!
