Hi guys, I've got an ex-RAF H reg 90 2.5 diesel. It runs lovely, but just recently I've noticed the clutch pedal seems a bit soft for the initial travel and then a bit spongy for the rest. Is this an indicator for something needing tightened or is something about to go?

Cheers

If the level has dropped, check for any clutch fluid coming out of the bell housing drain hole. Also check the clutch main cylinder - look up the clutch pedal - it often leaks down the pedal. If you need a new cylinder at either end, avoid cheap pattern parts - they don't last.

Don't forget the flexi-hose, they can go soft causing the same symptom.
I would bleed the system (10-minutes) and if that doesn't cure it change the hose and bleed again. If that fails change the master & slave (I use TRW) and bleed once more.
Luckily it is all very easy to do and TRW parts are cost effective, even if you have to replace everything it will only be about £40 and a couple of hours work.
