After 15,000 (almost) trouble free miles in my 1999 Freelander SW, the top radiator hose split last night on the motorway, so I ended up being towed home.:(

Ordered a new one from LR, about £14 plus VAT so not too bad. Just need some anti-freeze and will sort it out at weekend.

Interestingly RAC man said my car shouldn't be towed more than 10 miles on road, but needed a flatbed recovery, something I didn't know.

Only other problem I have had is the passenger electric window breaking (the wire has split). I have seen a thread on how to fix this DIY, but it is beyond my expertise. I have yet to get a quote for this, but I'm sure it won't be cheap

Does anyone know of a good independent LR specialist in the Halifax/Brighouse/Huddersfield area?

LOL

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

We've got two ...

The TD4 has done 63,000 miles without putting a foot wrong, never missed a beat.

Meanwhile, our Camel has probably had the most "envelope pushing" use and has probably done more off roading than any other Freelander, save perhps the other Freelanders that Vicky and Julian Read have used. It's now well over 100k and continues to be reliable and capable with regular, well informed, well timed work. Fair enough, it's had some of the components in the drive train changed in its lifetime, and we have spent more on it than the TD4, but that is to be expected with the mileage and use that the vehicle has had. It's an early model too, of course.

Cheers

You will find that the new top hose has been modified, ie. the joints now have plastic inserts instead of bonded joints, mine blew at the joint 3 weeks ago, so I bought a bottom hose at the same time instead of waiting for that to let me down.

Thanks for the number and advice.

I just bought the top hose in the end £16.60 including VAT and clips from LR

fitted it OK, and bled so heater works fine.:)
