Hi all, can anyone help please,
My Speedo stopped working , it worked in and off for a week before giving up completely, I've changed the the Speedo unit and still no change?? All the other dials work fine, also the cruise control still works and my suspension still drops down at 21mph using satnav for speed, so its still reading speed for those functions???, what controls the Speedo? I know the abs sensors but is it controlled by the bcu?
Any help much appreciated:cool:

hi, so you dont have speed indication but is the odometer registering the miles?

as answer for your question ...for the speedo the signal comes directly from the SLABS ECU to the meter so if all the other systems connected to raod speed signal are working the most obvious is the "clock" gone ... you can rule out a wiring issue by making a continuity test on the input to instrument pack from the ECU output, and if there is continuity between the ECU and the input pin on the instrument packs plug it's certain that the problem is within the instrument pack

are you up to do that? .. i mean can you handle a multimeter and do you have RAVE?

Yes I repair trains for a living so I'll be fine with that, but I replaced the instrument panel with a good one and still no joy plus the odometer isn't registering the miles

get a thin single core wire(cos you can insert it to make contact in the plugs from behind, or if you can't insert a needle in the wire and connect to that... being for test to not ruin the wiring;)) and make a bridge between SLABS ECU plug C0504-3 and instrument pack plug C0230-16(purple/green wire both sides) then make a drive test...if the meter works watch the odometer too and according to the result we'll speak again

Took a while to get round to it but I wired in that link and the Speedo and odometer are working now!

OK, see in RAVE - Electrical library - Connector views , first to check would be C0229/0667 cos at header C0290 the signal splits to the engine management, autobox if auto, ACE if fitted etc so it would have disturbed those systems too... the simplest is to take your "controll" wire end from the SLABS ECU and splice in to C0229 (maybe there's the problem too)...let's hope it's not at C0290 cos that's embeded into the harness under that black insulation and hard to reach

or if you put it on tester and dont get a "road speed missing" fault code from engine management or ACE it means the bad contact/interruption is after C0290 and you can even leave that bridge to not chase the interruption on the circuit if you see what i mean

Ok great thank you #### you should say ace as I removed it about two weeks before I got the problems
