Is the speedo cable driven or electronic on a 2004. Def td5
I've started getting a curious tapping noise at 100 to 120 km/ hr. That makes me think it could be a speedo cable, not all the time but enough to think i need to do something about it. So befor I take the dash out be nice to know.
Cheers tboy

Hi there it's electronic, no mechanical drive cable is used.

The tapping you describe is unlikely to be coming from the dash as there are no mechanical drive cables or devices behind there.

lt's more likely to be coming from the engine or transmission.

Could be air getting in the vents and blowing a cable label or a leaf that has gotten in there. Or the vent flap it's self moving

I had a tapping in time with the engine revs on my TD5 once and it turned out to be the bolts on the power steering pump pulley coming loose. There were three flanged head bolts and one had come out and the other two were about half a turn loose. Back in with plenty of Loctite (and a new bolt) and they've been OK since.

I think... I have found the problem,
The radiator grill was loosly fitting on the top lugs due to age , so thick tape on the body work and it seems to be different .
Could be the reason I only had it at 100/120 kms/hr, affected by that level of draft.
We will see, can't see anything else at the moment, I only found that by accident.
Cheers all Tboy

Another squeak can be the bonnet plastic rollers on the bulkhead

Yep got that one covered, got a bit of credit card stuffed in it, ok. Till you need to open the bonnet though, but stops the rattling
