Speedo cable help :S

I have been trying to get my speedo to work but can't, tried the search on other threads but not got any answers:S

The speedo works when turned by a drill and cable just about turns when turned with a drill soooo not sure what else it could be??

So if any of you guys could help please??

Check if you can see the speedo end of the cable turning when you're driving (have it plugged into transfer box)- if you can, make sure the cable is put into the back of the speedo properly - my new cable was fairly tough to go in all the way,
if you can't see it moving, may be the gear type thing that goes into the speedo box that the cable plugs into....

The cable can also part inside the outer - if its a one piece cable see if the speedo end comes out 'short' If it's a two piece (by design) check the connection is sound in the engine bay.

Took me ages to figure it out.....

Yh I tried driving with it plugged in at transfer box end n watching the speedo end but it wasn't turning:S

Ok thanks will check that do you think it's worth just getting a new cable after I've checked those n it's still not working?

Check the drive unit in the transfer box, it's only held in by one screw. They are made of plastic and the little gear or the square drive can easily fail.

Make sure that the inner drive is fully engaged at the gearbox end.

If you have had it apart or removed your instrument panel you may have pulled it out at the bottom end and not reseated it fully!

Remove the bottom end, push the inner through the outer so that you have a bit of spare, locate it in the drive and then pull the sleeve down and secure it with the little clampy thing, then stick the other end into your speedo and Bob's yer uncle!!

I would - at least you'll know it's not the cable then!

Just make sure you get a decent one! Mine went when the clip that holds the cable to the head broke so I got a new cable - it was cr*p. Whilst it looked fine, the inner caught against the outer at the slightest bend and at the head the needle swung +/- 20mph. I managed to repair the old one and back to rock steady.
The original one seemed to have a fairly rigid outer whilst the replacement (not Br****rt) was extremely flexible.
Only problem is, genuine one's aren't cheap.

think your better off getting the second part of the speedo cable as it joins it has a plastic drive at the top and it gets worn myn did this and took me ages to work out

Problem solved ish I found out that the pin thing that extends from the cable had snapped of and was still in the transfer box so now just to get a new cable and problem solved thanks for all the help

Yep, that would do it. At least you know now that a new cable will solve
