Speedo and VIN numbers

I have a G reg 90. Prior to me buying it, it had a Galvy chasis, rear axle off a disco and a 300tdi engine put in.

The chassis number doesn't seem to exist
The replacement engine number isn't on the V05, its still the original.

I have just put in a different 300tdi engine and i'll get the V05 updated with the engine number.
I have also changed out the front axle (off another defender) as the original had rotten brackets etc.

So;
1) what do I do with the speedo millage? It doesn't match the engine, the chassis, the axles.... so what is it for and what should it relate to?

I'd say leave the mileage as is.
It relates to the MOT history of that vehicle registration, so if you try to change it, it would potentially look dodgy and may open a can of worms.

A galv chassis wouldn't have a number on it if it was a new aftermarket one. If it has a number, it might be an old recon chassis that was galved.

My new galv chassis has my original chassis number etched into it, before galv. It was a special order though, so not sure it’s something they offer to the public.

Some people do have their old Chassis number etched into new replacements, that's completely normal and understandable, but it means nothing legally. It is not the originally factory stamped chassis.
If it was legally recognised, then it would be much easier to "ring" stolen land rovers.

It makes it easier to import into the states, if that’s your thing. It was offered to me, so I said yes. I was trying to make the point that you said a new galv chassis won’t have a number, but mine does.
