I'm in the process of cleaning the interior and have removed and stripped the front door cards.

I thought whilst they're apart i'd replace the 20 year old speakers.

Any suggestions what to fit

This is in a 94 soft dash, there's a woofer and tweeter in the front doors

depends what kind of budget you want to go for.

I really focal speakers, they are expensive but have an excellent sound quality, i've had them in a couple of cars... they do a 5 1/4 woofer and tweeter, HOWEVER you will need an amp to power them and where to put it gets kind of tricky on a classic.

On the 1990 classic i ended up putting 5 inch alpine speakers (combined mid and tweeter) in the doors and rear roof line powered so no need for an amp. i was contemplating filling the bottom speaker recess with a woofer, however that then leads back to having an amp and the only place i could consider is under the seat, and that isnt my ideal option, so left them unfilled as they were origionally.

For a sub, i like the infinity basslink, which is active so no need for an amp run, that's been through a few cars now !

if you want o keep it clean without separate amps, go for a line powered speaker with combined mid and tweeter. but if you are audiophile, and will go for separate amps, then go componant, i decided on speakers that would fit the OEM holes with no cutting so limited my choice somewhat.

Depending up on where abouts you live in the West Midlands take it down to Bass Junkies in Willenhall and ask them, I've bought stuff off them before and they stock a large range from budget to top end stuff and their prices were pretty good the last time I used them.

And no I don't work for them and other car audio specialist shops are available, so there you go I'm not a spam monkey:D

Thanks for the info

I'm south of B'ham so their a bit too far really. there's a couple of audio shops near me so i'll see what they come up with.
