Looked on the parts manual etc and couldn't see anything

I'm looking for the bits that are on the right and left of the dashboard where the speakers would sit. Is it a landy part or a aftermarket mod

Boris you have answered my question - its a 1985 90 - and i thought its something you buy as a aftermarket part. So i have to actually cut out the whole if thats the case i may as well surface mount them and cut dependant on aftermarket speaker i get. Would you agree?

You could either cut a hole in your current dash, or find a lower dash that has the holes cut out. A friend of mine bought a complete kit from eblag (genuine parts) that was everything required except head unit e.g. speakers, speaker mounts, wiring loom adapter etc for his 1989 F-reg 90. He is currently looking for the templates for me so I can cut my dash out.

You will have to use the speaker spacers because otherwise the speaker on the passenger side will hit the wiper motor. This also limits the size/depth of speaker that you can use also.

It may be worth moving the speaker inboard to near the fusebox cover, there may be more space there although I havn't looked myself. The 'stereo surround' effect of the speakers may be reduced if you move them there though.
