hiya

just removed the spare wheel mount as the paint is all peeling and also wish to check the condition of the outside grommet

hope this isnt a daft question but noticed the mount is an alloy, do u think i would be asking for trouble if i used a hot air gun on it to peel all the paint of easier please

or would i crack it

as ive got plenty of hammerite left was going to use that, as its behind the spare wheel and just so it protects it abit

thks again

Would sanding it or a wire brush be a better option. I guess heat would be fine. In fact I know somebody who took it off and powder coated it so that gets it hot enough.

Hi , sorted mine in march , bit of a mess behind it , but the paint was intact , renewed the wiper arm as the old one was scraping the paint on the door !

hiya
thks, got wire brushes etc and also for the drill

some off the paint is flaking off but would prefer to get all the paint off as it leaves an indentation so if i dont get it all off will show a lip through the new paint,

but think i may leave the hot air gun as it would be just my luck to cause a crack in it

as its going behind the spare wheel wont be shown much

thought i would also use the hammerite I've got left as it wont really be seen, was just also concerned it being an alloy of if the hammerite would react in any way

thks so much again and for the pics as mine is also scraping the bodywork
