I've a couple of "spare" key fobs identical to the "proper" one which works
with my M reg discovery - but they apparently need to synchronised/tuned to
my alarm system before I can use them.

Short of visiting the local LR dealership, can anyone tell me if and how to
get them to work......

Cheers

Your local locksmith might be able to program them somewhat cheaper than yer main
dealer.

If Your specification is vague or imprecise, you'll likely get what you
asked for not what you want

depends on type of alarm, but if OEM and you have a newish vehicle ( ~ '95
onward ) then you are looking at the dealer programming them through
Testbook ( LR software/ hardware ).
£45 for fob ( which you have ) £ 45 to programme. If you figure out
another method let me know so I don't get ripped off again. I phoned alarm
specialists and they would'nt touch them.

Just found this - taken from - http://www.roverparts.com/techtips_main.html

Remote Programming - Single Button - Tech Tip
Vehicle - 1994 and 1995 Range Rover Classic, 1994 and 1995 Discovery I
Note: Must be carried out in 8 seconds to access learn mode. Best done with
two people. You should have both remotes available or second one will not
work.

a.. Open hood and have assistant hold hood alarm switch down.
b.. From inside car with all doors closed, ignition off and all lock
buttons up
c.. Turn ignition on then off
d.. Cycle drivers door button down then up
e.. Assistant now releases hood switch
f.. Turn ignition on then off
g.. If done correctly, horn will beep once and dash LED will light up.
This indicates the learn mode has been accessed. If this doesn't happen
repeat 1 thru 6.
h.. From inside car push and hold first remote. The dash LED should flash
8 cycles a second for one second indicating that the code was received. If
this does not happen repeat steps 1 thru 6 again.
Push and hold the second remote if the code is received the dash LED will
flash 8 cycles indicating that the code was received. If this does not
happen repeat 1 thru 8 again. Note: Turn the ignition on at any time will
cancel the learning process. The system can only store two remote codes and
must be done at the same time. If you only have one remote program it twice.

.....I'll try it later when my "assistant" is available.

Cheers

As GbH said - try some locksmiths. Ours (in Castle Douglas, SW Scotland) is
doing a new fob + spare key + reprogramming for 50 quid ish, I would have
thought that you would do better the nearer you are to civilization!

Cheers, Chas
