Evening all.

I currently have a pair of 5inch alpine speakers which sit in the roof trim of the front of the cab, above the passenger and the driver. These are running off a 240 Watt Alpine amp which is stowed under the passenger seat next to the battery.

I would like to add some more speakers so I can actually hear the music at 50+mph, I am thinking of perhaps putting a couple of 8 inch subs in the dashboard where your knees are. I have seen some landys with speakers there, how much space is there behind the dash there is it just hollow?

I'm also thinking of putting a pair of 6x9s in boxes and putting them in the left and right corners of the vehicle either side of the rear door.

Any other suggestions? I do use the vehicle for work and frequently have stuff chucked in the back so don't want to take up loads of space with large sub boxes etc.

Same thing here. The only way to get decent sound in a defender is to have a well sealed off enclosure with a massive driver and an amp hidden somewhere, but I don't want to be a chav so I am avoiding that as best I can.

Speaker manufacturers like pioneer used to put little plastic dishes in the boxwith your hi-fi that you would case around the speaker to create bass reflex. Of course, nowadays cars have well sealed off doors with big enough cavities behind them to make for good bass so they make good use of it and don't give you the plastic dishes.
