Guys, decided do join this forum looking for some helpful info from Freelander owners.

What happened to me and to my 2001 Freelander 1.8 petrol 3dr hardtop was:

I took my car to a local Garage in regards to a misfire, no warning lights on the dashboard, just a very sluggish acceleration. I checked my self all sparks, leads, coils, etc, so I decided to run a diagnostic to see what happens.
Well, at the garage, after 2 days the guy told me that his computer was unable to read my ECU and asked me to take the car back.
After taking my car back with the misfire still happening, but now the warning light blinks constantly in the dashboard!!!

Anyway, then I took my Freelander to the local dealership which ran he diagnostic for me and the results were internal problems at the engine. (Headgasket, or small crack in the head). As the dealership is way too expensive I took the car back and thought, at least I know what the problem is.
But now what happens is:

My alarm gone off and simply doesnt work.

The door locks dont work as well, even when I press the button at the dashboard. I tried turning the key towards the back of the vehicle in the drivers door but nothing happens also.

The boot door window doesnt move at all, even trying to open from outside, or pressing the dashboard button. I also tried turning the key at the boot door and pressing the handset button, but nothing happens.

Seems all the doors locks, alarm, and boot door is completely dead! When I try to reset the alarm, nothing works also. The battery is almost new, full charged, the buttons inside the car are all connected properly.

Everything gone mad!!! Any help some one???? (apart from the engine problem, now the electric gone also!!!)

SOS!!!!

I am wondering if that did happen because they removed the ecu, and now maybe did not connect it properly... how can I check?? Maybe disconnecting and connecting the battery again??
Any useful comment???

My 2001 hardtop did the same misfire, cyl 3 and 4   no warning lights and no power. Turns out one of the coil packs was f**ked an was wear to another lead causing an arc with the cover. I sprayed them with WD 40 to get rid of the water worked for a little while. I ended up replacing both coil packs and leads and gave them a good coating in WD 40 before fitting them again. No problem since and goes like the clappers. alarms and stuff sorry aint got a clue, good luck.

I suspect what has happen here is the bod with the computer has put the car into shipping mode. All the posh functions are inhibited to reduce battery drain during delivery to dealerships etc. One easy way to check is if the interior lights work, or not. I'd take the car back to the dealer and suggests he puts the controllers straight again. This isn't just the ECU, its the central controller by the interior fuse box. I also wonder if he's furtled with the traction controller as well. One dealer that is nominated for Muppet of the Year award.

As for the original problem, my vote is HGF. A K series and a Freelander is about as successful as a chocolate teapot.
