Afternoon all.
I hate to add to the list of EAS threads but have an issue & would appreciate some advice before i go changing the airbags.
Yesterday i got the EAS FAULT pop up going down the M1 (approx 15 mins into journey). It went into standard height & stayed there for the remainder of our journey.
So i got back & plugged in Mr Datatek's supplied software to get 'RR VALVE STUCK CLOSED'. Cleared the fault & all was well. Reading up on this fault it seems to be related to a leak somewhere - at least that's what RSW advise.
I thought i'd better check things this morning so out came the soapy water spray. Having a good look round all airbags look to be fine with the exception of the OSR bag (which stands to reason given the fault). After about 5 mins i could see a small group of tiny bubbles forming, after wiping these away it would take another 5 mins to see any further bubbles forming. So i take it this is a very small leak. I should add i've never had issues with leaks before & it never drops after a few days stood & always raises as it should, compressor doesn't run excessively.
I also did Wammers check for a leak in the valve block - let pump run, switched off & checked the exhaust port for leaks but nothing.
What did concern me was the proximity of my Janspeed exhaust to this bag, just wondered if localised heat could cause the rubber to degrade quickly (the bags were replaced in 2009). Any thoughts on this?
Should i pull the EAS relay to check the drop on this corner, as mentioned though, the height doesn't drop (self level) over night:confused:

You had that up at full height, the leak rate changes as the bag folds under. Sure a red hot exhaust will affect the rubber and as it's started to leak it will need changing..
Valve stuck closed could also be a height sensor, if the reading does not change when expected, the ECU will signal a valve stuck closed, so either the leak or the sensor, but as it rose from motorway height, perhaps more likely the sensor.

Cheers Datatek,

I'll have a look through the height sensor readings to see if there is anything amiss. Is there a 'best way' of cleaning the sensor?
Looks like i'm going to raid the piggy bank for a set of Gen 2's earlier than expected - was hoping to do this next year:(

Sorting that exhaust before you fit new airbags would be my first step, lovely V8 burble and cooked airbag:eek: GenII's IMO would suffer even more from heat stress than Dunlops, if you can't sort the exhaust, don't waste cash on GenII's.
You can't clean the sensor, only the connector.

Fair point. Just i've not heard of this before though considering how popular the Janspeed is. Is your SS system the same pattern as OEM (T branch to rear boxes). There must be 50-60mm clearance to the airbag on mine:eek:

Yes, my SS is pretty near exactly the same as OEM, just the joints are not in quite the same places.
Not sure how hot the exhaust will be at that point but it would seem likely that it's too hot as that's where the bag has developed a leak.

I guess so, on a 4 year old airbag in otherwise good shape. I might look at making up a heatshield if there is space - would need to clamp onto the exhaust pipe to work with the height changes:scratching_chin:

Wrap the pipe in that heat shielding stuff I think stutab was using on his Classic with the big V8 diesel.:)

Wrapping a foot of pipe is not going to cause a problem, can't see why it would cause a problem anyhows, the headers on my race car I made out of stainless and they used to glow, never had a problem:confused:

Don't suppose a foot of pipe would cause too much of an issue, but stainless is prone to cracking if it's lagged.
