Hi there! Shortly to inherit a few bob, and itching to own a Land Rover. Always fancied doing some off roading (tried it as a passenger). Trouble is my budget won't let me own two vehicles (no storage space either) so it needs to be an every day car as well. Any advice on what I should be looking at? Needs to be comfortable for regular use, as reliable as possible (haha!), fuel economy a minor issue. In my dreams I have the range-topping Range Rover, but my budget is £5k. Help!!

Welcome to the best place on web for landrover advice!

With that budget you should be spoilt for choice but ill let the more experienced members guide you :D

OK, I'll have a go....
£5k should get you a late Defender 300Tdi (but probably not a station wagon), a late Freelander 1, a very nice Discovery 2 Td5, a P38 Range Rover (bit of a guess there), or a headlight from an Evoke...

Running cost should also be a consideration too though. Fuel aside, some are more expensive to run than others in terms of servicing, tyres, road tax etc. If you plan to do your own servicing this will help bring down the costs but the newer they are, the more electronics are in them which can complicate things.

Have a look through the classifieds and Autotrader etc. and see what you can get for your money. Once you have an idea, browse through the sub-forums on here to see what sort of problems crop up on each model and bear these in mind when you go out to kick some tyres.

Oh, and welcome!
