I recently brought a 300tdi 7 seater 144k on fleebay, had loads of work done but as ive gone over it ive found plenty more that needs doing, mainly rot! the MOT runs out 13th august so gota get it sorted by then! the rear nearside inner quarter is pretty rotten, as its a 7 seater (not stated on the V5...) its within the rarius of the belt mounts for the dickie seat on the nearside, the nsr outter arch has a whole so for £35 i was gona replace the whole arch and be done with it! i thought the osr arch was sound but there is a slight crack in the metal once i took the wire brush wheel to it, ive put some hammerite rust primer over it and itll be barely visible once its painted up! annoyingly i found a small whole right next to the osr seat belt mount, ill probably be able to patch that up. i noticed it had a bit of a tail wobble so i checked all the suspension and anti roll bars, the bushes on the both sides look worn on the rear shocks but the nsr shock lower bush is shot! its rattling around the lower plate/washer. is it worth putting a pair of standard shocks on? there £15 a piece and replacing the bushes that have worn with either originals or polys. anyway i just need to get it through another mot on a budget! here are some pics of what i found!

You might be as well changing the bushes and seeing how the shock is then, I thought my suspension was shot all round (it still seems a bit low) but just the worn bush and drop link from the anti-roll bar was changed to get it through the MOT and it drives a lot better.

I'd replace both rear shocks with the best you can afford. As for the rot, I've seen far worse on my last D1. A bit of angle steel, some plate, some welding and some imagination should see all that sorted. And for £35, I'd defo replace the whole rear arch. Enjoy

Can I make a suggestion for when you next post pics.
After each link press the enter button so the pictures are one on top of the other rather than all next to each other as its a real pain to look at.

The welding dont look too bad so shouldnt be too big a job.

Thanks for all the feed back, my mate has got a set of poly bushes in the back of his shed so gona put them on tomorrow, as for welding, his ur shocked me start with as I thought it was solid motor!
