[Solved] Need advice on a TD5 for sale

It’s not that bad. If it wasn’t for the bulkhead and there was a bit of movement with the price then it’d be worth a look, the chassis and the the rest of it looks good. Personally I’d avoid it purely because of the bulkhead, it’ll need repairing to prevent it getting worse and it may already be quite bad under the windscreen-bulkhead seal. It’s not a difficult fix, but quite time consuming and I’d be surprised if you found a garage to do it for less than £600.

Those doors are easy to fix. And you could just bung on a couple of second hand ones and spray them up. The view of thr chassis near the rear x member looks exceptionally good, although personally I'd only pay that sort of money for a van sided td5 90 if it was on a galvy.
Either knock him down a bit or look elsewhere, but the doors are a cheap easy fix compared to a chassis swap.
Make sure all vin numbers match etc, good luck with your search
 
Why don’t you go for a nice ‘06 TD5 110 that’s just done 82000 miles? Oh did I mention I have one for sale
 
Rule number one ... if you are a newbie to Landies, take someone with you who knows what they are talking about and what and which areas to concentrate on!
There are quite a few on this forum who may be willing to accompany you and go along with a hammer and screwdriver to give it a once over in exchange for a beer token or two.
 
I wouldn't write off the original red one if you are happy with the rest of the condition.Why don't you contact the seller and tell him you have picked up on several issues including the doors needing major repair or replacement but you are happy with the rest of the vehicle so you would be happy to offer him a lower offer taking g into consideration these repairs that are needed? At the end of the day you want to buy and he wants to sell so try and reach an agreement. You are very unlikely to find a TD5 Defender that doesn't have corrosion issues. That front bulkhead is very superficial and has been caught just in good time if sorted now. If it was me I would be offering £8250 - £8500 as a fare offer.

Even 8 grand is far to much, 4 or 5 max.. it looks like it’s been in the sea all it’s life

I bit the bullet and bought one! Luckily he was selling around the corner from a local landy specialist I know so i got an independent inspection done. She's immaculate!
