Freelander 1 (solved)engine wont start after chaning fuel pump

Greetings, 2006 TD4.

Changed fuel filter and fuel pump, aaaand no engine start. I reconnected the old punp, but still nothing. Tested if there is fuel at injectors, but nothing out of the hose is coming.

Can hear the pump working fine, and made sure everything is connected fine 3 times. Tried to bleed the fuel system by just turning on and off ignition but nothing.

Any advice on what is going on?

You really need to put a diagnostic read on it, so you can see the pressure the low pressure pump is supplying.
It's not been unheard of for the odd filter to be faulty, and reduced the fuel pressure enough to prevent an engine start.

No fuel pressure read out, have a diagnostic tool and both didn't give me a working number.

No read out or zero pressure in the low pressure field?

Affirmative, on old and new pumo

Have you pulled the fuel supply pipe to the HP pump, to see if any fuel is being delivered? The low pressure supply pipe is the silver pipe under the intake manifold which doesn't have the fuel spill connection going to it.

Yeah I did. Just undid the fuel hose at the diesel filter and not much ran out as it did when I took the old one

Sounds like the filter isn't allowing fuel through.

Possible some small debris went into it? Sadly the old filter is a bit destroyed so can not reuse it

Did you fit the fuel filter the right way round, just a thought.

Had the same issue with mine couple of years ago, if I can get hold of the spanner man I'll ask him what he did to resolve it

Sounds like there is a blockage somewhere as above?

Going to try today pump diesel thru, running out of options because car has to work for tuesday.

It's the correct way.

Disconnect the pump to filter pipe, and make sure fuel flows, if so connect that back up and see if fuel flows out the filter, if not the filter is blocked, which has been seen before.

Found the problem... we forgot to take off the small tubs on the tips of the pump and didn't see them since they were see thru plastic... also they ended up into the hose so it was even harder to find out why the pump and filter didnt get diesel!

At least you found the fault.

We are all human! ...and rather silly of the manufacturer to use clear plastic.

How on earth did you manage to find them?

Complete accident! I wanted to put back the tube into the hole, and then in a glimpse I saw a really tiny tiny tiny piece of it sticking out, and I was like: ''huh, that's weird, didn't know those here have an extra layer of plastic inside for protection!''. Then I looked down it and was surprised it went only half a cm deep. The only reason I spotted it was because the diesel made the plastic another colour..
