I use a 12 watt solar panel with a charge regulator when I leave the car for a long period. I rewired the accessory socket in the boot to be permanentley live so I can just plug in and leave the panel on the rear parcel shelf.
Less than 5 watts is a waste of time in my opinion.

accessory socket in the boot? hmmm i like the sound of that. Is there an easy way to hook one up?
I have privacy glass will this inhibit the charge level? ( for location on the parcel shelf? ) Is it possible to hard wire it so i can leave it on the dash?

I recently had a bank of solar panels to charge my battery's that I used for my static.
The difference between 'full sun' and a hand sized shadow does to the output is quite surprising.
Privacy glass may hinder the charging a bit, but if its on constantly to 'top up' battery's, I reckon you will be fine.
But as you man says anything less than 5 watt aint worth a "relax in a gentleman's way"

Privacy glass will drastically reduce the output of a solar panel, you would not leave my solar panel on the dash, it's too big!
