Soft Top Queries

So I just bought myself a 90 truck cab that I am converting to a soft top (need the extra legroom space!), and have few questions

1. I'm looking to fit a diesel heater, and have seen some place under the drivers seat with little to no room for the fuel bottle. Has anyone else fitted the Mud Stuff Diesel heater locker and then put a smaller fuel bottle under the drivers seat?

2. It appears that the stereo wasn't hooked up to anything and the wires are all over the place so I'm looking to start from scratch, can anyone recommend a decent budget set up so that I can actually hear something and for a soft top what security solutions you have used to make sure its not nicked.

Can't help with heater but can really recommend removing all old radio wiring and then buy a JBL bluetooth speaker linked to your mobile phone. This gives you wireless hi-fi with enough power and clarity for any radio station/music app to be played anywhere, worldwide[!] It sits perfectly behind the cubby box, or hang between the seats from the bulkhead. For absolute security simply remove from Land Rover...or cover with a cloth behind cubby box when out and about. And added benefit of being totally waterproof which is handy in a soft top.

Fitting a tilt won't help you hear the stereo or keep you warm.

I find the soft top warmer than the hard top

A well fitting soft-top is definitely warmer in winter than an un-lined hardtop.

How is fitting a tilt going to give you extra legroom Unless you fit a rear bulkhead removal bar..

Cos you can sit on a big cushion and push the canvas up a bit with your heid giving yourself more legroom silly

Thats interesting ... I think the key phrase there is "well fitting"....
With a tin-top Its when the condensation freezes and after the heaters been on for 20 mins and you reach that busy roundabout and brake ..... just about the same time as you crane forward to look out the window ... character building.
Do you not get that with canvas ?

I got one of those (well the Britpart one TBH) and it makes a huge difference. Once fitted you can put these on https://www.exmoortrim.co.uk/seat-riser.html they add several inches which really sits you back.

I have seen them but not fitted, mine are on custom rails but ive got stumpy legs

No condensation with a canvas. Only water that comes in mine is when I open the door when it’s been wet and it drips off the seal. Only downside is in very windy weather or if going very fast they can get a bit flappy

Yes, that is the key.
As already commented on, condensation forms on an un-lined hardtop and in winter will freeze until the interior warms up when it drips all over you.
This doesn't happen in a soft-top and with a correctly working heater & fume curtain, a soft-top can be a snug and cosy place to be even in the coldest weather.

Get a nice truck cab with headlining. Job’s a good ‘un! And you might be in with a bit of a chance of hearing the stereo...
