so whats this trailer law again !

sorry i kno im slow, so can i or cant i tow a sankey trailer that weighs 500 ish kg empty with a 90 defender or what, cant make head nore arse of this law , oh only had car licence since 2000 , only need a simple yes or no will do fine , people keep realing this thing off to me to work it out , any one else have the same problem , thanks in advance

you can tow anything upto 750kg without doing a trailer towing test thingy... but, i think, if its got the potential to carrymore than 750 then you cant tow it! which menas your sankey is out. dont know how true this is. but i refuse to tow water bowsers for work incase the 5-0 stop me

With your licence, with no trailer test, you can tow anything that has a maximum legal mass up to 750 KG. So, if the trailer weighs 500kg, and is only designed to take another 250 kg, you can tow it. But, i doubt that, and would imagine it is meant to take a lot more weight. In which case u need to do a trailer test. Techincally.

And yes, it is a potential, and extremely unlikely. And i didn know they was called 3/4 ton trailers, so there y'ar. Find me an average copper that knows that an all though.

yeah sorry 750 kg sanky , bloody typin and doing two things at once yer know how its like

so basically its a bit iffy as your on the limit with it empty and it has the capacity to carry a bag of crisps so your fecked as the copper will escort you to a weigh bridge and confirm your trailer is 750.25kg nicking you on the spot... just do the test and then you will be clear. not only that, what if your involved in an accident? what if you skid into the back of someone due to extra weight? licence details will be the 1st thing they look at and your insurence will be void.

the tests are only about £40 i think, and pretty easy, but you need a trailer which is higher and at least as wide as the towing vehicle, so you cant use the internal mirror. So, if you are using a landy for the test u need a horsebox basically. Most of the test is off the road an all. I intend to do mine soon.

well you take the risk and take your chances... i wouldnt personally, not just to shift some stuff.

eh me lunch were a bit heavy today , see yer point, am i better off with an alloy job , one of the cheepies? itle be buggered in a day tho, too light and bouncy too

Well the simple answer to that is don't tow anything with a Gross weight exceeding 750kg.
