ive got the engine out on the landy (300tdi) and the bottom of the snokel doesn't look right (i didn't fit it). the tee piece in the photo just has a mesh in the bottom bit. surely that would just let water in especially when its lower than the top of the wheel?

Help please.

But if the snorkal was above water, then it would suck air in, allowing any water to drain out of the bottom.......I think.

drain for rain going into top of snorkel. and allows any dirt/dust from getting sucked into filter( allows it to fall out) and if you were wadding there is a cover to put over it to stop water from getting into engine.

i did search, couldn't find anything so asked the question to a group of like minded landy owners.

Thanks for your help ..... sorry to wake you from your sleep.

That is actually a water outlet. As standard, your defenders inlet is on the side of the wing. Water can easily get in there, so this y trap is there to let the water back out. The mesh is supposed to work as a kinda one way type of arrangement. But as you say, probably wouldn't stand up to sitting in water. The instructions for my safari snorkel tell you to seal it with silicone. I haven't done that yet, but planned to make some type of cap to go over it, that I could drain off if needed.

I would seal it off completely, not enough water is going in the top of the snorkel that you need to be draining it.
