Right there i was taking out the bolts to remove my hub on the rear axle so i can change my brake shoes and snap!

One of the six bolts that hold the hub on has snapped at the threaded part of the bolt :( it was really tight so gave it the shock treatment then i finally turned then snapped.

So question is can i leave it like that with only 5 bolts holding it on? Or do i have to get it out somehow and find a new bolt somehow to fit

Any tips or pointers for getting it out and sourcing a new bolt would be much appreciated :)

Cant you remove the rest if the bolts and the flange, See if there is some bolt left to get hold of with some thing like a pair of stillsons to remove the remaining bit.

spray with something like WD-40 and let it soak in and hit the bolts straight on with a 2lb hammer. Try to tighten them just a wee bit before trying to loosen them. work them back and forth tighten loosen until the turn free and lots of wd in the process. If you have a heat source use that

you can drive it like that for the time been then pick a good day when shops are open to fix it just in case you need anything,

Cheers guys.

I will leave it as is for now

There are 5 bolts holding it on as i managed to get the rest out easily. And it's all back together now.

As for getting the part of the remaining bolt out :confused:that could be interesting it snapped off in the hole and only the shanked part came out of the hole :(
Only way i can think of fixing it is drilling it out and retapping to next size up. With a suitable bolt of course.

And now I've just stripped the threads on one of my brand new brake cylinders for the front :mad::mad: FFS! :(

If you have a reverseable drill buy a lefthanded twist drill to drill it out the heat of the drill will warm the bolt and often start the stud coming out.
Proper release oil is better than WD40 either duck oil or plus gas

Don't worry, I managed to completely #### up the the simple task of rebuilding a prop shaft. I've handed it all over to a local Indy to sort out my mess and rebuild the other one.:eek:
