Hi people,

I'm currently looking through security options for my defender. I've read some other threads but haven't seen anything about snap off boss kits?

just wanted to ask your opinion on using a snap off boss kit so I can just keep the steering wheel in the house along with a pedal lock box and gear stick lock. Good idea or just get a disc lock?

Thanks!

I remember a mate telling me when he was a a bad boy as a youngster and he just used to use mole grips to steer the car!

Haha! I was going to make a plate to lock down over the top aswell. Just hate the thought of spending all this money on the truck and then it getting robbed!

DiskLok you can use anywhere, unless you like taking your steering wheel for work /dinner/cinema ..etc...etc

It is more for work cause my landy sits on my work drive for 3 days at a cottage in a rural place. Can put the steering wheel in the office

The Snap-Off kit has been mentioned on here many times, I should know as I posted several of the replies.

The genuine Snap-Off is very good, it is removed only by a key and the boss is quite large & tapered so it is difficult to get a decent purchase with something like Mole's. I used a 12-inch wheel and used to carry it with me in my Manbag, no problems.
I only got rid of it a year or so ago when I decided to get a larger Momo wheel and it wasn't so handy to carry around.

Don't know anything of the so call Snap-Off kits now widely available, they are nothing like the kit I had (a lot cheaper for certain and have no lock) and are possibly just using it as a generic name (like Hoover, Biro, Jeep etc).

To ad to this, I now use a genuine Disklok, big & heavy but a decent piece of kit and another of my many security layers.

Thanks for the info Litch

I've got several of the cheaper ones fitted to my vehicles. An l200 and my 110. They work well and it's a simple 1 second affair to remove the wheel.

They use a series of sprung bearings to hold the wheel on. I don't technically think it would pass an mot though to be fair?

landrover just hide the steering wheel under the seat if I am out and about

Ok not the best but it's a fettered. If someone really really wants it they will get it.
