Smooth roof

My 90 is a '93 and has a smooth roof but it was rebuilt from a pick-up years ago, which is why my mate asked the question originally as his is an '87 model and has a ribbed roof. Mine needs a new roof as she's got a severe dent just behind the sunroof. (Clown of a subbie clouted it with a mini digger bucket). Do I go ribbed or smooth and has anyone got one for sale?

The ribbed roof is designed to increase down force.
You may go faster with a smooth roof in a straight line but an identical landy with a ribbed roof will leave you standing in the twisties.
I also find that the optional Algee and moss that some of us like to grow on our roofs , tends to stay put with less effort on ribbed roofs.

Well that explains it Flossie. And there was I thinking that the ribbed roof was for that 'Agricultural' look plus auto screen washers in the rain and the smooth version was designed for poncing about in Chelsea High Street!

I know of a local 4x4 dealer who rebuilds and, has been known to use the older style roof from scrapped vehicles, on his rebuilds.

I understand that the McLaren F1 team have adopted Flossie's aerodynamic skills on their new car, for the forthcoming Monaco Grand Prix. This, when taken together with their new colour scheme, taken directly from the Husqvarna garden care range of equipment, will greatly improve the reliability and speed of the current 2017 F1 car.

That vehicle would have had a smooth roof(ribs inside), but if I was going to fit one, I would go ribbed if I could get one. Just looks more landrover to me! :)
