After finally getting time to get the heads back on the P38 I tried to run it and the amount of light grey smoke coming out the back was unreal, so I thought the valley gasket had gone. This might sound daft but when I was fitting it I felt uneasy as it looked the part (All makes 4x4)but was a proper pig to line up the bolt holes etc, the when running the car for ten minutes it was obvious the new valley gasket was leaking as smoke stared coming from the centre of the engine.
So I bought a genuine Landrover one, and funnily enough it fitted perfect.
So I started the car again and still there is loads of smoke coming out. Which did not seem to diminish after leaving the car running for 10-15mins, if I rev it the smoke gets much worse. But the exhaust has a slight blow at the manifold down pipe at the flexi joint there appears to be no smoke coming out of that area.
So the Question (yes I finally got there) has anyone else experienced loads of smoke after the valley gasket/heads have been fettled and will it clear after a while, or am I looking at something more serious/expensive.
