start with undoing brass plug (13mm ) on passenger side of block to drain coolant ,rocker shaft ,push rods ,injector pipes ,wire to glow plugs, inlet and exhaust manifold water pipes etc

not sure do a search ,dont forget brass plug first ,fairly straight forward ,refiiting you may need help with ,when your unsure just ask

sounds like head gasket or valve if you cant see any reason for one not opening or staying open must be on underside of head ,sign of head gasket can be staining around fire ring or even blown through, take some pictures ,

James. I really can't thank you enough for your advice, but after sleeping on it, I'm going to let a garage sort my problems out as the vehicles needed for work and an upcoming holiday. Many Thanks again....

Hi Dude,
How did you work out it was the valve going phut phut? I have had injectors make that exact noise when they are not seated properly.

I removed the rocker cover and watched while the engine was running - getting covered in oil at the same time.... what I did notice was what I think is the injector housing was discoloured - more of a burnt bronze colour than the normal steel colour.....

large spanner on the big bottom pulley at front of engine

only ever turn it clockwise never turn it anti-clockwise as this will slip yer timing by slackening off the belt tensioner

clockwise only fella with ignition off and steady as she goes

Wont slip timing if turned wrong way, when and engine stops running it doenst just stop, the crank rocks back and forth before stopping.

Well, Its at the garage now, where they seem to think its possibly a sticky valve. I'll update once I hear back from them as to what it was, in the hopes that someone with a similar problem can search and get an answer...

Many thanks for the comments and help.
