Smoking gunshots!

Hi everybody
As it suggests my 300tdi when cold start kicks out loads of fog and when revved back fires but once I'm going it looks and sounds fine, told it could be fuel pump timing or a week piston ring , I'm no Machanic but if any one knows a good one or wants the job to fix it what sort of price would it cost? Wife just wants rid of it but I love it.

Have a cyclist or someone with Gretathunberg syndrome check the emissions first. If they collapse in a heap you might need to rev more to clear the exhaust.

Whereabouts in Northumberland? You might be close to Al203 who has a thread running at the moment on 300tdi rebuild he is Morpeth I believe.

Try putting some injector cleaner into the fuel tank may help Millers is what I use.
Thinking a dribbling injector.

Changed injectors with ones from my old landy before I sold it, also changed glow plug.
